Dominant groups

Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 25 to 34 years in Bayside Council in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a smaller proportion of people who spoke English only, and a larger proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 36.0% of people aged 25 to 34 years spoke English only, and 57.0% of% spoke a non-English language, compared with 50.8% and 43.2% respectively for Greater Sydney.

Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 25 to 34 years in Bayside Council was Mandarin, with 10.8% of the population, or 3,941 people speaking this language at home.

The major differences between the languages spoken at home for people aged 25 to 34 years of Bayside Council area and Greater Sydney in 2021 were:
