Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Ward 4 in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,365 people or 15.3%)
  • Retail Trade (1,621 people or 10.5%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (1,376 people or 8.9%)

In combination, these three industries employed 5,362 people in total or 34.7% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Bayside Council area employed 12.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 9.4% in Retail Trade; and 10.0% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Ward 4 and Bayside Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (15.3% compared to 12.2%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in retail trade (10.5% compared to 9.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in construction (6.9% compared to 8.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (8.9% compared to 10.0%)

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Ward 4 were for those employed in:

  • Accommodation and Food Services (-662 persons)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+221 persons)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (-174 persons)
  • Administrative and Support Services (-132 persons)
