Dominant groups

Analysis of the share of the male population attending educational institutions in Ward 1 in 2021 compared to WSROC Region shows that there was a higher proportion attending primary school, a higher proportion attending secondary school, and a lower proportion engaged in tertiary level education.

Overall, 11.8% of the male population were attending primary school, 7.7% of the male population were attending secondary institutions, and 6.3% were learning at a tertiary level, compared with 9.1%, 6.9% and 6.8% respectively for WSROC Region.

The major differences between the share of the male population attending learning institutions in Ward 1 and WSROC Region were:

  • A larger percentage of males attending a primary school (any type) (11.8% compared to 9.1%)
  • A larger percentage of males attending a Government primary school (8.5% compared to 6.4%)
  • A smaller percentage of males not attending (64.2% compared to 67.6%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, Ward 1's male population increased by 13,745 people (+39.1%). This represents an average annual change of 6.82% per year over the period.

The largest changes in the number of males attending education institutions in Ward 1, between 2016 and 2021 were in those who nominated:

  • Primary - Government (+1,321 males)
  • Secondary school (+1,267 males)
