Dominant groups

Analysis of the household/family types in Ward 4 in 2021 compared to WSROC Region shows that there was a higher proportion of couple families with child(ren) as well as a similar proportion of one-parent families. Overall, 48.0% of total families were couple families with child(ren), and 12.8% were one-parent families, compared with 39.2% and 12.6% respectively for WSROC Region.

There were a lower proportion of lone person households and a lower proportion of couples without children. Overall, the proportion of lone person households was 13.8% compared to 18.5% in WSROC Region while the proportion of couples without children was 17.7% compared to 20.2% in WSROC Region.

Emerging groups

The number of households in Ward 4 increased by 2,244 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in family/household types in Ward 4 between 2016 and 2021 were:

  • Couples with children (+745 households)
  • Lone person (+607 households)
  • Couples without children (+501 households)
  • Group household (+88 households)
