More Ward 3 residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2016.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Ward 3 in 2016 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:
- Health Care and Social Assistance (4,034 people or 13.4%)
- Retail Trade (3,123 people or 10.4%)
- Manufacturing (2,483 people or 8.3%)
In combination, these three industries employed 9,640 people in total or 32.1% of the total employed resident population.
In comparison, The Ponds employed 11.2% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 10.6% in Retail Trade; and 7.0% in Manufacturing.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Ward 3 and The Ponds were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed in transport, postal and warehousing (7.9% compared to 5.3%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in financial and insurance services (5.3% compared to 9.1%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (5.6% compared to 9.2%)

The largest changes in the jobs held by the resident population between 2011 and 2016 in Ward 3 were for those employed in:
- Manufacturing (-860 persons)
- Health Care and Social Assistance (+774 persons)
- Construction (+591 persons)
- Wholesale trade (-467 persons)
