There were more female professionals in Ward 1 in 2021 than any other occupation.

Ward 1's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Ward 1's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Ward 1 in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (7,562 females or 32.5%)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (5,283 females or 22.7%)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (3,157 females or 13.6%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 16,002 females in total or 68.7% of the employed female resident population.

In comparison, WSROC Region employed 27.1% in Professionals; 22.6% in Clerical and Administrative Workers; and 15.2% in Community and Personal Service Workers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Ward 1 and WSROC Region were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed as Professionals (32.5% compared to 27.1%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed as Managers (10.9% compared to 9.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed as Labourers (4.1% compared to 6.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (13.6% compared to 15.2%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Ward 1 increased by 6,695 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of female residents between 2016 and 2021 in Ward 1 were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+2,906 females)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+983 females)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (+920 females)
  • Managers (+914 females)
