There were more professionals in The Ponds in 2016 than any other occupation.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in The Ponds in 2016 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (1,862 people or 31.5%)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (975 people or 16.5%)
- Managers (937 people or 15.8%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 3,774 people in total or 63.8% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, Mount Druitt Precinct employed 13.3% in Professionals; 15.6% in Clerical and Administrative Workers; and 6.4% in Managers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of The Ponds and Mount Druitt Precinct were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Professionals (31.5% compared to 13.3%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Managers (15.8% compared to 6.4%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (4.4% compared to 15.9%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Labourers (4.2% compared to 13.3%)

The number of employed people in The Ponds increased by 4,301 between 2011 and 2016.
The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2011 and 2016 in The Ponds were for those employed as:
- Professionals (+1,382 persons)
- Managers (+696 persons)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (+684 persons)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (+398 persons)
