More Rural Residential female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

Rural Residential's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Rural Residential in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (530 females or 23.7%)
  • Education and Training (310 females or 13.9%)
  • Retail Trade (213 females or 9.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,053 females in total or 47.2% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Greater Sydney employed 21.0% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 12.6% in Education and Training; and 9.7% in Retail Trade.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Rural Residential and Greater Sydney were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (23.7% compared to 21.0%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in transport, postal and warehousing (4.3% compared to 2.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (6.5% compared to 10.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in accommodation and food services (3.5% compared to 5.6%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Rural Residential increased by 1,742 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Rural Residential were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+436 females)
  • Education and Training (+231 females)
  • Retail Trade (+146 females)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (+131 females)
