More Rural Residential male residents worked in construction than any other industry in 2021.

Rural Residential's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Rural Residential in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (363 males or 15.0%)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (241 males or 10.0%)
  • Manufacturing (211 males or 8.7%)

In combination, these three industries employed 815 males in total or 33.8% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, New South Wales employed 14.1% in Construction; 6.8% in Transport, Postal and Warehousing; and 7.4% in Manufacturing.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Rural Residential and New South Wales were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (10.0% compared to 6.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (0.6% compared to 2.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in accommodation and food services (3.6% compared to 5.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in mining (0.1% compared to 1.6%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in Rural Residential increased by 1,834 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in Rural Residential were for those employed in:

  • Construction (+235 males)
  • Transport, Postal and Warehousing (+181 males)
  • Manufacturing (+168 males)
  • Retail Trade (+166 males)
