Rural Residential's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Rural Residential's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Rural Residential in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (706 females or 31.5%)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (584 females or 26.0%)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (271 females or 12.1%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 1,561 females in total or 69.6% of the employed female resident population.
In comparison, New South Wales employed 29.5% in Professionals; 20.1% in Clerical and Administrative Workers; and 15.4% in Community and Personal Service Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Rural Residential and New South Wales were:
- A larger percentage of females employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (26.0% compared to 20.1%)
- A larger percentage of females employed as Professionals (31.5% compared to 29.5%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (12.1% compared to 15.4%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed as Labourers (4.0% compared to 5.9%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed females in Rural Residential increased by 1,727 between 2016 and 2021.
The largest changes in the occupations of female residents between 2016 and 2021 in Rural Residential were for those employed as:
- Professionals (+577 females)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (+445 females)
- Community and Personal Service Workers (+195 females)
- Managers (+193 females)
