Analysis of the household/family types of people aged 65 to 74 years in the Inner West Council in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney, shows that there was a lower proportion of people aged 65 to 74 years in couple families with child(ren) as well as a similar proportion in one-parent families. Overall, 15.7% of people aged 65 to 74 years were in couple families with child(ren), and 7.4% were in one-parent families, compared with 21.0% and 7.7% respectively for Greater Sydney.
There was a higher proportion of people aged 65 to 74 years in lone person households and a lower proportion in couples without children. Overall, the proportion of people aged 65 to 74 years in lone person households was 26.6% compared to 18.6% in Greater Sydney while the proportion of couples without children was 41.8% compared to 46.0% in Greater Sydney.
The number of people aged 65 to 74 years in households in Inner West Council area increased by 3,994 between 2011 and 2021.
