Dominant groups
Analysis of the household/family types of Italian speakers in the Inner West Council in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a lower proportion of Italian speakers in couple families with child(ren) as well as a higher proportion in one-parent families. Overall, 36.7% of Italian speakers were in couple families with child(ren), and 13.8% were one-parent families, compared with 41.1% and 11.7% respectively for Greater Sydney.
There were a higher proportion of Italian speakers in lone person households and a lower proportion in couples without children. Overall, the proportion of Italian speakers in lone person households was 16.4% compared to 13.6% in Greater Sydney while the proportion in couples without children was 28.6% compared to 29.8% in Greater Sydney.
