Occupation of employment

There were more male technicians and trades workers in Division 02 in 2021 than any other occupation.

Division 02's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Division 02's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Division 02 in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Technicians and Trades Workers (3,578 males or 21.3%)
  • Professionals (2,783 males or 16.6%)
  • Machinery Operators And Drivers (2,624 males or 15.6%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 8,985 males in total or 53.4% of the employed male resident population.

In comparison, the City of Ipswich employed 23.4% in Technicians and Trades Workers; 12.5% in Professionals; and 16.6% in Machinery Operators And Drivers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Division 02 and the City of Ipswich were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed as Professionals (16.6% compared to 12.5%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed as Managers (12.4% compared to 10.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Labourers (11.4% compared to 14.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (21.3% compared to 23.4%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in Division 02 increased by 3,004 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of male residents between 2016 and 2021 in Division 02 were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+863 males)
  • Managers (+513 males)
  • Machinery Operators And Drivers (+448 males)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (+358 males)
