Occupation of employment

There were more male technicians and trades workers in Division 03 in 2021 than any other occupation.

Division 03's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Division 03's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Division 03 in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Technicians and Trades Workers (2,681 males or 22.2%)
  • Machinery Operators And Drivers (2,165 males or 17.9%)
  • Labourers (2,079 males or 17.2%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 6,925 males in total or 57.2% of the employed male resident population.

In comparison, the City of Ipswich employed 23.4% in Technicians and Trades Workers; 16.6% in Machinery Operators And Drivers; and 14.1% in Labourers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Division 03 and the City of Ipswich were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed as Labourers (17.2% compared to 14.1%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (17.9% compared to 16.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Managers (8.5% compared to 10.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed as Technicians and Trades Workers (22.2% compared to 23.4%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in Division 03 increased by 1,693 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of male residents between 2016 and 2021 in Division 03 were for those employed as:

  • Machinery Operators And Drivers (+356 males)
  • Technicians and Trades Workers (+340 males)
  • Professionals (+294 males)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+198 males)
