Dominant groups
Analysis of the language spoken at home by people aged 65 to 74 years in the MidCoast Council area in 2021 compared to Australia shows that there was a larger proportion of people who spoke English only, and a smaller proportion of those speaking a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).
Overall, 92.2% of people aged 65 to 74 years spoke English only, and 2.0% spoke a non-English language, compared with 78.8% and 16.2% respectively for Australia.
Other than English, the dominant language spoken at home by people aged 65 to 74 years in the MidCoast Council area was Italian, with 0.2% of the population, or 32 people speaking this language at home.
