Dominant groups

Analysis of the male five year age groups of Taree in 2021 compared to MidCoast Council area shows that there was a higher proportion of males in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of males in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 18.4% of the male population was aged between 0 and 15, and 25.6% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 15.4% and 32.6% respectively for MidCoast Council area.

The major differences between the male age structure of Taree and MidCoast Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of males aged 20 to 24 (5.8% compared to 3.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 65 to 69 (6.1% compared to 9.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 70 to 74 (6.4% compared to 9.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of males aged 60 to 64 (6.6% compared to 8.5%)

Emerging groups

From 1996 to 2021, Taree's male population decreased by 208 people (2.5%). This represents an average annual population change of -0.1% per year over the period.

The largest changes in male age structure in this area between 1996 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • 0 to 4 (-266 males)
  • 85 and over (+184 males)
  • 75 to 79 (+164 males)
  • 35 to 39 (-162 males)
