In 2021, the largest age group in Taree was 60 to 64 year olds. The group that changed the most since 2006 was 85 and over year olds, increasing by 189 people.

Dominant groups
Analysis of the female five year age groups of Taree in 2021 compared to MidCoast Council area shows that there was a higher proportion of females in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of females in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 16.6% of the female population was aged between 0 and 15, and 28.8% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 14.1% and 32.9% respectively for MidCoast Council area.
The major differences between the female age structure of Taree and MidCoast Council area were:
- A larger percentage of females aged 25 to 29 (5.5% compared to 3.9%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 65 to 69 (6.2% compared to 8.8%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 70 to 74 (6.6% compared to 8.8%)
- A smaller percentage of females aged 60 to 64 (6.7% compared to 8.9%)
Emerging groups
From 2006 to 2021, Taree's female population increased by 729 people (9.0%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.57% per year over the period.
The largest changes in female age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:
