Dominant groups

Analysis of the five year age groups of Taree in 2021 compared to MidCoast Council area shows that there was a higher proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) and a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).

Overall, 17.6% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 27.2% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 14.7% and 32.7% respectively for MidCoast Council area.

The major differences between the age structure of Taree and MidCoast Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of persons aged 25 to 29 (5.6% compared to 3.9%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 65 to 69 (6.1% compared to 9.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 70 to 74 (6.5% compared to 9.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons aged 60 to 64 (6.7% compared to 8.7%)

Emerging groups

From 2006 to 2021, Taree's population increased by 1,413 people (9.1%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.58% per year over the period.

The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2006 and 2021 were in the age groups:
