More Taree female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Taree in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (1,031 females or 36.9%)
  • Retail Trade (419 females or 15.0%)
  • Education and Training (299 females or 10.7%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,749 females in total or 62.6% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, MidCoast Council area employed 30.1% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 13.1% in Retail Trade; and 12.6% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Taree and MidCoast Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (36.9% compared to 30.1%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in retail trade (15.0% compared to 13.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in agriculture, forestry and fishing (1.0% compared to 3.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in education and training (10.7% compared to 12.6%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in Taree increased by 379 between 2006 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2006 and 2021 in Taree were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+437 females)
  • Retail Trade (-83 females)
  • Manufacturing (-76 females)
  • Administrative and Support Services (+61 females)
