Dominant groups

Analysis of the language used at home by the population of Taree and surrounds in 2016 compared to Regional NSW shows that there was a larger proportion of people who used English only, and a smaller proportion of those using a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 90.0% of the population used English only, and 3.0 used a non-English language, compared with 87.1% and 5.7% respectively for Regional NSW.

The dominant language used at home, other than English, in Taree and surrounds was Malayalam, with 0.2% of the population, or 63 people using this language at home.

There were no major differences between Taree and surrounds and Regional NSW in 2016.
