There were more professionals in the MidCoast Council area in 2016 than any other occupation.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in MidCoast Council area in 2016 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Professionals (4,861 people or 16.2%)
- Technicians and Trades Workers (4,412 people or 14.7%)
- Labourers (3,985 people or 13.3%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 13,258 people in total or 44.2% of the employed resident population.
In comparison, Gloucester employed 13.9% in Professionals; 15.4% in Technicians and Trades Workers; and 14.6% in Labourers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the population of the MidCoast Council area and Gloucester were:
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Professionals (16.2% compared to 13.9%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (12.6% compared to 10.9%)
- A larger percentage of persons employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (11.1% compared to 9.6%)
- A smaller percentage of persons employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (6.5% compared to 10.7%)
