Dominant groups

Analysis of the female service age groups of Taree in 2021 compared to MidCoast Council area shows that there was a higher proportion of females in the younger age groups (0 to 17 years) and a lower proportion of females in the older age groups (60+ years).

Overall, 20.0% of the female population was aged between 0 and 17, and 35.8% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 16.9% and 42.4% respectively for MidCoast Council area.

The major differences between the female age structure of Taree and MidCoast Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of 'Young workforce' (10.8% compared to 8.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Empty nesters and retirees' (13.2% compared to 18.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Seniors' (17.0% compared to 19.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of 'Older workers & pre-retirees' (11.5% compared to 13.4%)

Emerging groups

From 2016 to 2021, Taree's female population increased by 320 people (3.8%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.75% per year over the period.

The largest changes in the female age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

  • Seniors (70 to 84) (+206 females)
  • Young workforce (25 to 34) (+105 females)
  • Older workers and pre-retirees (50 to 59) (-56 females)
  • Elderly aged (85 and over) (+52 females)
