Dominant groups
Analysis of the year of arrival for the overseas born Chinese languages speaking population of the Northern Beaches Council in 2021 compared to Greater Sydney shows that there was a larger proportion of people who arrived before 2010, and a smaller proportion of recent overseas arrivals (those who arrived between 2016 and 2021).
Overall, 75.2% of the overseas born Chinese languages speaking population arrived before 2010, and 12.4% arrived during or after 2016, compared with 65.1% and 18.2% respectively for Greater Sydney.
The major differences between the year of arrival data of the Chinese languages speaking population of Northern Beaches Council area and Greater Sydney were:
- A larger percentage of arrivals between 1981 to 1990 (22.6% compared to 15.8%)
- A larger percentage of arrivals between 1991 to 2000 (20.9% compared to 17.4%)
- A smaller percentage of arrivals between 2016 to Aug 2021 (12.4% compared to 18.2%)
- A smaller percentage of arrivals between 2011 to 2015 (10.9% compared to 14.9%)
