Dominant groups
Analysis of the five year age groups of St Kilda in 2021 compared to the City of Port Phillip shows that there was a lower proportion of people in the younger age groups (under 15) as well as a lower proportion of people in the older age groups (65+).
Overall, 7.5% of the population was aged between 0 and 15, and 10.9% were aged 65 years and over, compared with 11.4% and 13.2% respectively for the City of Port Phillip.
The major differences between the age structure of St Kilda and the City of Port Phillip were:
- A larger percentage of persons aged 25 to 29 (14.1% compared to 11.1%)
- A larger percentage of persons aged 30 to 34 (14.5% compared to 11.8%)
- A smaller percentage of persons aged 5 to 9 (2.3% compared to 3.7%)

From 2001 to 2021, St Kilda's population increased by 3,260 people (18.2%). This represents an average annual population change of 0.84% per year over the period.
The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2001 and 2021 were in the age groups:
- 60 to 64 (+596 persons)
- 55 to 59 (+595 persons)
- 35 to 39 (+489 persons)
- 20 to 24 (-442 persons)
