Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in South Melbourne in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (708 males or 20.9%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (307 males or 9.1%)
  • Construction (292 males or 8.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,307 males in total or 38.6% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, the City of Port Phillip employed 17.5% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 7.2% in Financial and Insurance Services; and 10.8% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of South Melbourne and the City of Port Phillip were:
