Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in Port Melbourne in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (778 males or 18.6%)
  • Construction (506 males or 12.1%)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (352 males or 8.4%)

In combination, these three industries employed 1,636 males in total or 39.0% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, the City of Port Phillip employed 17.5% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; 10.8% in Construction; and 7.2% in Financial and Insurance Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of Port Melbourne and the City of Port Phillip were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in transport, postal and warehousing (5.5% compared to 4.2%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in construction (12.1% compared to 10.8%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in health care and social assistance (5.1% compared to 6.8%)
