Dominant groups

Analysis of the language used at home by the population of St Kilda East in 2021 compared to the City of Port Phillip shows that there was a larger proportion of people who used English only, and a similar proportion of those using a non-English language (either exclusively, or in addition to English).

Overall, 73.6% of the population used English only, and 21.2% used a non-English language, compared with 72.5% and 21.0% respectively for the City of Port Phillip.

The dominant language used at home, other than English, in St Kilda East was Spanish, with 2.1% of the population, or 177 people using this language at home.

There were no major differences between St Kilda East and City of Port Phillip in 2021.
