More NSROC Region female residents worked in health care and social assistance than any other industry in 2021.

NSROC Region's industry statistics identify the industry sectors in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the skill base and socio-economic status of the residents as well as the industries and employment opportunities present in the region.

When viewed in conjunction with Residents Place of Work data and Method of Travel to Work, industry sector statistics provide insights into the relationship between the economic and residential role of the area.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in NSROC Region in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (30,819 females or 19.6%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (22,964 females or 14.6%)
  • Education and Training (20,400 females or 13.0%)

In combination, these three industries employed 74,183 females in total or 47.2% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, the City of Ryde employed 19.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 12.5% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services; and 12.5% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of NSROC Region and the City of Ryde were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in professional, scientific and technical services (14.6% compared to 12.5%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in financial and insurance services (9.3% compared to 8.2%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in retail trade (7.8% compared to 9.0%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in NSROC Region increased by 24,464 between 2011 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2011 and 2021 in NSROC Region were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+7,094 females)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (+4,326 females)
  • Education and Training (+3,805 females)
  • Financial and Insurance Services (+3,355 females)
