Rural East's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Rural East's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups
An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in Rural East in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:
- Managers (123 females or 23.0%)
- Professionals (103 females or 19.3%)
- Clerical and Administrative Workers (83 females or 15.5%)
In combination these three occupations accounted for 309 females in total or 57.8% of the employed female resident population.
In comparison, Snowy Monaro Regional Council area employed 15.2% in Managers; 20.1% in Professionals; and 18.3% in Clerical and Administrative Workers.
The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of Rural East and Snowy Monaro Regional Council area were:
- A larger percentage of females employed as Managers (23.0% compared to 15.2%)
- A larger percentage of females employed as Labourers (10.7% compared to 9.2%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed as Community and Personal Service Workers (12.9% compared to 18.5%)
- A smaller percentage of females employed as Clerical and Administrative Workers (15.5% compared to 18.3%)
Emerging groups
The number of employed females in Rural East increased by 71 between 2016 and 2021.
There were no major differences in Rural East between 2016 and 2021.
