Dominant groups
Analysis of the household/family types of Chinese languages speakers in the MidCoast Council in 2021 compared to Regional NSW shows that there was a similar proportion of Chinese languages speakers in couple families with child(ren) as well as a similar proportion in one-parent families. Overall, 44.2% of Chinese languages speakers were in couple families with child(ren), and 6.6% were one-parent families, compared with 44.1% and 6.7% respectively for Regional NSW.
There were a higher proportion of Chinese languages speakers in lone person households and a lower proportion in couples without children. Overall, the proportion of Chinese languages speakers in lone person households was 10.3% compared to 8.3% in Regional NSW while the proportion in couples without children was 21.5% compared to 24.7% in Regional NSW.

The number of Chinese languages speakers in households in MidCoast Council increased by 34 between 2016 and 2021.
