Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the male resident population in MidCoast Council area in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Construction (3,076 males or 18.1%)
  • Retail Trade (1,541 males or 9.1%)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (1,457 males or 8.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 6,074 males in total or 35.8% of the total employed male resident population.

In comparison, Regional NSW employed 16.1% in Construction; 7.5% in Retail Trade; and 6.7% in Health Care and Social Assistance.

The major differences between the jobs held by the male population of MidCoast Council area and Regional NSW were:

  • A larger percentage of males employed in construction (18.1% compared to 16.1%)
  • A larger percentage of males employed in health care and social assistance (8.6% compared to 6.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in public administration and safety (5.4% compared to 7.7%)
  • A smaller percentage of males employed in mining (2.0% compared to 4.2%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed males in MidCoast Council area increased by 1,691 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the male resident population between 2016 and 2021 in MidCoast Council area were for those employed in:

  • Construction (+497 males)
  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+398 males)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (+168 males)
  • Public Administration and Safety (+154 males)
