Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the female resident population in MidCoast Council area in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (5,144 females or 30.1%)
  • Retail Trade (2,242 females or 13.1%)
  • Education and Training (2,149 females or 12.6%)

In combination, these three industries employed 9,535 females in total or 55.9% of the total employed female resident population.

In comparison, Regional NSW employed 26.1% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 11.3% in Retail Trade; and 13.9% in Education and Training.

The major differences between the jobs held by the female population of MidCoast Council area and Regional NSW were:

  • A larger percentage of females employed in health care and social assistance (30.1% compared to 26.1%)
  • A larger percentage of females employed in retail trade (13.1% compared to 11.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in public administration and safety (3.9% compared to 6.6%)
  • A smaller percentage of females employed in education and training (12.6% compared to 13.9%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed females in MidCoast Council area increased by 2,285 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the jobs held by the female resident population between 2016 and 2021 in MidCoast Council area were for those employed in:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (+1,018 females)
  • Education and Training (+369 females)
  • Public Administration and Safety (+137 females)
  • Construction (+129 females)
