There were more professionals in Ward 1 in 2021 than any other occupation.

Ward 1's occupation statistics quantify the occupations in which the residents work (which may be within the residing area or elsewhere). This will be influenced by the economic base and employment opportunities available in the area, education levels, and the working and social aspirations of the population. When viewed with other indicators, such as Educational Qualifications and Individual Income, Occupation is a key measure for evaluating Ward 1's socio-economic status and skill base.

Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Ward 1 in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were:

  • Professionals (14,757 people or 30.4%)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (7,489 people or 15.4%)
  • Managers (6,959 people or 14.3%)

In combination these three occupations accounted for 29,205 people in total or 60.2% of the employed resident population.

In comparison, Blacktown City employed 23.8% in Professionals; 15.2% in Clerical and Administrative Workers; and 11.0% in Managers.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Ward 1 and Blacktown City were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Professionals (30.4% compared to 23.8%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed as Managers (14.3% compared to 11.0%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Machinery Operators And Drivers (6.3% compared to 11.1%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed as Labourers (5.6% compared to 8.6%)

Emerging groups

The number of employed people in Ward 1 increased by 13,181 between 2016 and 2021.

The largest changes in the occupations of residents between 2016 and 2021 in Ward 1 were for those employed as:

  • Professionals (+5,865 persons)
  • Managers (+2,266 persons)
  • Clerical and Administrative Workers (+1,434 persons)
  • Community and Personal Service Workers (+1,179 persons)
