Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Gloucester in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (152 people or 14.0%)
  • Retail Trade (120 people or 11.0%)
  • Construction (110 people or 10.1%)

In combination, these three industries employed 382 people in total or 35.1% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, MidCoast Council area employed 19.4% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 11.1% in Retail Trade; and 10.2% in Construction.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Gloucester and MidCoast Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in mining (3.9% compared to 1.1%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in manufacturing (7.0% compared to 4.9%)
