Dominant groups

An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Dee Why in 2021 shows the three most popular industry sectors were:

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (2,120 people or 15.3%)
  • Retail Trade (1,463 people or 10.6%)
  • Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (1,452 people or 10.5%)

In combination, these three industries employed 5,035 people in total or 36.4% of the total employed resident population.

In comparison, Northern Beaches Council area employed 11.8% in Health Care and Social Assistance; 8.5% in Retail Trade; and 14.3% in Professional, Scientific and Technical Services.

The major differences between the jobs held by the population of Dee Why and Northern Beaches Council area were:

  • A larger percentage of persons employed in health care and social assistance (15.3% compared to 11.8%)
  • A larger percentage of persons employed in retail trade (10.6% compared to 8.5%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in professional, scientific and technical services (10.5% compared to 14.3%)
  • A smaller percentage of persons employed in financial and insurance services (5.2% compared to 7.2%)

  • Education and Training (+197 persons)
  • Construction (+117 persons)
